Estate Planning
Throughout our lives, we work hard to build financial security for ourselves and our families. We purchase homes, participate in retirement plans, open bank and brokerage accounts, and make other investments. Naturally, we want to enjoy what we have earned during our lifetimes – while also ensuring our estates can pass to our loved ones efficiently when we pass away.
For nearly every client, a comprehensive estate plan includes more than a Last Will and Testament. It should also include essential documents such as an Advanced Medical Directive and Financial Power of Attorney.
I recognize that the personal and financial backgrounds of each client are different. That is why I make sure that any set of documents I prepare reflects the specific needs of each individual client. In addition to preparing the core estate planning documents I will utilize trusts to address issues such as, second marriages, spouses in nursing homes, and children with disabilities.

Estate Administration
After the passing of a loved one, the responsibility of administering their estate can feel overwhelming. Executors and trustees can greatly benefit from the guidance of an experienced professional to maximize the inheritance of each beneficiary. These efforts ultimately help avoid costly mistakes, unnecessary taxation, and excessive administrative costs.
For years, I have assisted clients to properly administer the estates and trusts of their loved ones. Sensitive to the fact that the administration of an estate or trust frequently arises from the death of a loved one I work as quickly as possible to assist clients so that they can put financial and legal obligations behind them and focus on healing.

Special Need Trusts
Many individuals living with disabilities rely on essential public benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid, and Section 8 housing. However, when these individuals receive cash or other assets from an inheritance or personal injury action, it jeopardizes their eligibility for these very critical benefits.
To protect their interests and access to public benefits, trusts can be created on their behalf known as Special Needs Trust. These trusts provide resources to enhance the quality of life for individuals living with disabilities but, allow for the continuation of any government benefit.

Medicaid Planning
At some point, most individuals will face the need for long-term care, a reality that can be both emotionally and financially overwhelming. After a lifetime of hard work and saving, few people are prepared to face losing their homes and depleting their life savings to cover the high cost of nursing homes or assisted living care.
For many years, I have worked with families to engage in thoughtful planning which preserves assets while also ensuring access to quality care for the individuals who need it.

Guardianships
There are times when an individual- whether due to developmental disability or mental incapacity later in life- requires a protective arrangement from the courts. If an individual is incapable of executing traditional estate planning documents, the court can establish guardianship. By which an individual is appointed to make personal, medical, and financial decisions on their behalf.
I routinely make petitions to the court to establish guardianship on behalf of those who cannot make legal decisions on their own but require the assistance of others. I work closely with families to guide them through the legal process and ensure that their loved ones receive the support and protection they need.

Probate Litigation
A variety of issues can arise after an individual passes away that may impact the inheritances which their loved ones should receive. These may include disputes over the validity of a will, wills and trusts which do not reflect the intent of the deceased, and the administration of an estate or trust which fails to reflect the true intent of the deceased.
As part of my practice, I represent clients in litigation involving contests of wills and trusts, reformation of poorly worded estate documents, and causes of action to remove and penalize executors and trustees who have abused their authority.
